How to Go Live on Discord
First and foremost, you must have Discord installed on your Windows PC, or any other operating system available to you.
To start streaming, you must create a Discord voice channel that you will use for your live stream. Here’s how to make a Discord server and a server voice channel:

Click on the ‘Add Server’ button (+) to create a new server.

How to make a server voice channel
There is a voice channel named ‘General’ channel or ‘Lounge’ on your Discord server by default. However, if you want to make a different voice channel specifically for streaming, here’s how:
- Select the server icon on the left sidebar
- Click on the (+) icon beside ‘Voice Channels’ to create a channel.
- Choose ‘Voice channel’ and create a name for that one voice channel.
- Toggle on if you want the voice channel to be private.
- Click ‘Next’. Add moderators if you want, or you can just skip it.
After you finish creating a Discord account and Discord server, invite friends to your server voice channel. You can then start your live streams from then on. Here’s how to stream on Discord by following these on-screen instructions:

Open Discord desktop app settings by clicking on the gear icon/user settings menu.

To enable audio sharing, remind server members to unmute and undeafen their desktop audio. You as the one who is screen sharing, make sure to stream audio by enabling audio sharing on the channel.
Important things to note:
- The instructions above are also applicable to streaming Netflix on the web (use a browser to avoid a black screen upon screen sharing)
- The default quality on Discord is 720p, with a frame rate of up to 30fps for the streaming options
- To enjoy full access to the Discord app features, having a Discord nitro subscription is recommended; where you can stream up to 1080p, or as high quality as the video source, and up to 60fps while Discord streaming.
How to Stream to Discord From Your Webcam
You can stream your entire screen on Discord, and even share your screen while on a video call, using your webcam. For as long as your built-in camera (laptop) or webcam works, Discord automatically detects the camera without the need for configuration.
