You might want to reflect a different part of your personality in each server you are in or have an inside joke within the server that you want to reflect with your username on Discord.
Luckily Discord has a function so you can change your username on Discord on every server.
So if you want to know how you can change your username, also known as a nickname, on Discord, you will have to follow the steps you can read down below.
How to Change Your Server Name on Discord
There are different methods to change your nickname on Discord for each server. Do note that you won’t be able to do this if the server owner turns off the change nickname permission for your role.
In the Discord server self
The first way to change your nickname is in the Discord server, by using the edit server profile setting, and you can do this by doing the following steps.
-
Step 1
Open Discord on the server you want to change your nickname, by clicking on the desired server in the left sidebar.
-
Step 2
Either right-click on your profile picture from a recent message in a text channel you were talking in or your profile picture in the server members list.
-
Step 3
This will give you a context menu, select edit server profile.
-
Step 4
Clicking on edit server profile will give you a screen that shows the profile settings and here you can change your nickname for that specific Discord Server.
-
Step 5
Press save changes at the bottom of your screen and you have your new nickname.
Your new nickname will be visible now; your overall discord username is still visible in the rest of the app.

Slash command
The easiest way to change your nickname is by using slash commands in a Discord server. All you have to do is type the following slash command in any text channel of the Discord server where you want to change your nickname.
/nick <your new nickname> and press enter. A message will pop up in the text channel that only you can see that says your nickname has been changed to the desired nickname you chose. After, you can also see in the Discord server that your new nickname has been changed.
Ask Server moderators
If the server owner turns off the change nickname permission and you do want to change your nickname, then you will have to ask one of the server moderators to change your nickname for you. Some servers have a special text channel to request this, or you will have to message them privately.
If you want to change a server member’s nickname, you can do this partially the same way; just the pop-up screen will look a little bit different from changing your own nickname.

If you have Discord nitro, you have 3 extra options in your server profile settings besides being able to change your nickname for each server.
-
Avatar
With Discord Nitro, you can also change your avatar or profile picture for each server you are in. So if you are matching profile pictures with someone, you don’t have to worry that your entire profile gets changed for all servers.
-
Profile banner
You have access to adding a custom profile banner for every server; when you have Discord Nitro. Without Discord Nitro, you can only choose a color and not an image, which will be the same for every server.
-

The last thing you have as an extra option with Discord Nitro, you can make an about me specific for each Discord server you are in.
