How to Set Up Discord Server Subscriptions

In December 2022, Discord unveiled its latest addition, server subscriptions.

Server subscriptions are a new option available to server owners that want to offer special benefits to their users for a monthly subscription.

Sever owners set the price and the benefits of each tier. The cost of subscribing almost entirely goes to the server owner (90% of the cost).

Owners also gain access to the Creator Portal, which offers guides, information, and ideas to help you create and manage subscription tiers easily. You can access the Creator Portal in the server settings tab.

Discord has also given access to Promo Pages, a shareable webpage that allows owners and content creators to share everything about their subscription tier services.

To start earning with subscriptions, your server must be a community server. This means your server will now be subject to a new set of rules, and any community guideline violations can result in repercussions.

Once your server is made into a community you can begin the process of setting up subscriptions.

1. STEP 1

   Open the Server Settings tab and scroll down to the Monetization category.

   Click the Start Earning button and follow the steps when prompted by Discord.

   (You will need to set up two-factor authentication, and a team for subscription management.)

   You now have access to the monetization options and information in your Discord Community Server.

   

To set up pricing and in-app benefits for all your server subscription tiers:

1. STEP 1

   Select the Tiers tab under Server Subscriptions.

   Click Create New Tier.

   Fill out the basic information and price of the tier.

   

4. STEP 4

   Select any in-app benefits you would like from the drop down tabs.

   

5. STEP 5

   When you are finished, click Save, then Publish to make the tier available to your users.

   

How Much Should Each Tier Cost?

Server owners will have to determine the price of each tier. These prices should be based on the subscriber offerings and what you think your members are likely to pay for.

A server subscription tier should reflect the benefits that come along with it. For example, a content creator may offer an exclusive monthly video for a tier 1 subscription. A tier 2 sub may also receive early access to future merch drops or exclusive voting rights on a particular topic in the community.
