How to Add People to a Discord Call

Gone are the days of phone calls with just one person, as now we can be in a virtual get-together with a bunch of our friends at once.

Discord does this exceptionally well; with easy ways to add friends to group chats and direct messages, communicating online has never been easier.

In this article, we are going to cover how to directly add your friends to a group call, add them with an invite link, and create a group direct message chat.

The first and most important part of creating a group call is that you must have the person you want to add on your friend list.

How to Add a Friend in the Discord App

If you aren’t friends, find them in either a server you share, or in your direct messages, right click their name and click Add Friend. They will receive a friend request notification they will need to accept before they are added to your friend list.

If you do not share a server with the person, you will need to type their Discord tag into the Add Friend section on Discord.

How to Add Someone to a Discord Call

Now that you are friends in Discord, it’s time to add them to the group call. A group call requires at least two members to start.

  First we need to start a group call by clicking on the call icon in the top menu.

  When they join a direct message chat will be created. To add other members to this DM, click the icon that looks like a person with a plus sign (+).

• STEP 3

  In the search menu that pops up, scroll or search for the friend you want to add. Click the check box next to the selected member’s name.

• STEP 4

  

  When you’ve chosen everyone you want to add, click Create Group DM.

• STEP 5

  All selected members will receive a joining request for the chat, and once they accept all the members will be able to join the voice call and see messages

Note: This will create a new tab in your DMs for this chat.

Now that you have a group chat going, you may want to add even more friends.

A group chat can have up to 10, including yourself. Keep this in mind when inviting more members, as the selection process may only include your favorite buddies.

If your friends aren’t online to accept your invite, you will need to create an invite link and send it to them.

Click on the person + icon and in the drop-down menu, it will show a link button now that the group DM has been created.

Click the Create button to generate an link that can be copied to your clipboard.

You can paste this link into any text chat or message. The link text can also be typed out by users trying to join the call.

If you want to add people to the chat or call using the mobile app:

1. Step 1

   Click on the person icon in the top right corner of the Discord app.

2. Step 2

   Select the desired people from your friend list or type in the Discord ID.

3. Step 3

   They will receive a message in Discord to join.

How Long Will an Invitation Link to Group Calls Last?

Unlike a server invite which can be set to never expire, a DM link generally expires in 24 hours.

This means your friends will need to accept the invite within the time or they will need another one to be able to join.

Make sure when you are trying to add someone that they know you’ve sent an invitation link.
