Luckily Discord offers a few different ways to easily invite friends via your computer or mobile device
This guide will show you how to create and send an invitation link to invite members to your Discord server, as well as how to allow or deny your members to send invites of their own.
How to Create an Instant Invite Link
The easiest way to invite members to your server is to create an invite link.
-
STEP 1
To do this, click on the arrow to the right of the server name and select Invite People.
-
STEP 2
Click the Copy button to copy the invite link. You can now paste that link to almost any place you like, such as a text channel in Discord, or directly to someone you wish to join your server.
-
STEP 3
You can click the Invite button to the right of any of your Discord friends to send instant invites directly to them in a direct message.
This invite link has a limited duration, so you will need to send another if people do not join within seven days.
Create an Invite Link That Won’t Expire
-
STEP 1
To create an invite link that will never expire, in the pop-up window containing the invite link simply select ‘Edit invite link’ at the bottom.
-
STEP 2
In the pop-up menu, there are a couple of drop-down menu options you can use to create the type of link appropriate for your invitation needs.
-
STEP 3
The first option allows you to set links to expire in a few different time limits.
-
STEP 4
With the second drop-down menu, if you are concerned about the number of members joining, you can set the max number of uses an individual link can be used.
-
STEP 5
The last option is important for server safety. Clicking on the slider for the ‘Grant temporary membership’ setting will make it so anyone joining through the link will be removed from the server when they disconnect.
This option is an easy way to keep your server members organized without having to manually remove people you no longer want to have access.
These are the basics of creating an invite link to your server. More specific types of server invites may be necessary for your server control and moderation.
How to Invite People to a Specific Channel
Discord offers the ability to create an invite link to specific channels, rather than the whole server.
-
STEP 1
If you place your mouse over the channel name, two options will pop up on the right hand side.
-
STEP 2
This link can be shared the same way as a full server invite link.
-
STEP 3
This link can be shared the same way as a full server invite link.
How to Grow a Community Server
-
STEP 1
If you want your server to be a large community rather than just friends there is an option in Discord to invite people via the built-in community section.
-
STEP 2
Go to server settings in your own server and find the Community section. Click Enable Community and follow the steps Discord provides.
-
STEP 3
The Discord guide will take you through the steps to help ensure your server is as safe as it can be as you gain new members.
This option should only be used in servers that would like to attract a lot of members. Be mindful that if you choose this option, moderation will likely be quite a bit more involved.
