In this article, we’ll discuss how to change your Discord profile picture from both your desktop and the Discord mobile app. We’ll also discuss any limitations that may come with changing your profile picture.
How to Change Your Discord Profile Picture
With the Discord desktop app, you can change your current profile picture in less than five steps:
-
Step 1
Open the Discord app and click on the user settings gear icon in the bottom left corner.
-
Step 2
In the settings, select the User Profile option on the left.
-
Step 3
Under the preview window, run your mouse over your current profile picture and click change avatar.
-
Step 4
From the pop-up window select upload file and pick a photo.
Note: If you have Discord Nitro, you can also select a GIF from the settings here.
-
Step 5
Crop your choice and click apply on the bottom right to save changes.
Play around with your avatar and see what works for you. Remember, the avatar is a small circle, so you want to make sure others can see whatever you plan to upload as your new Discord avatar. Be sure to use the preview window to check the clarity of the image. Any changes made on the desktop may take some time to process on mobile. If your profile hasn’t changed, you may need to close the app and reopen it.
How to Change Your Profile Picture on Discord Mobile
Speaking of mobile, changing avatars there is just as easy as desktop:
-
Step 1
Open the Discord app and tap your avatar in the bottom right corner.
-
Step 2
In the user settings, tap your avatar or User Profile.
-
Step 3
Tap your avatar and then select change avatar.
-
Step 4
Select the file you want to use, crop it, and tap Choose to save your changes.
Again, the icon you’re working with is small, even smaller on mobile. Before you tap and save your new upload, make sure you can tell what it is.
How Often Can You Change Your Profile Picture on Discord?
No matter if you’re working from desktop or mobile, you can change your Discord avatar as many times as you want. Prior to hitting save, make sure your selection is appropriate for all servers you are a member of. You may be able to switch between username and nickname on the fly between servers, but when it comes to profile pictures, it is one size fits all.
You only get one icon, so make it count. Want to let others know that you’re into Avatar: The Last Airbender? Change your profile to an Aang drawing you drew. Have a logo you use in your Twitch stream? Logos make for perfect icons. Are you a front-facing person? Nothing wrong with a literal profile picture of yourself. The perfect icon can be the perfect conversation starter when meeting new people. Think about the conversations you want to start before updating your profile.
