Being banned from a Discord server can be frustrating, especially if you’re not sure why you were banned in the first place. Fortunately, you can do a few things to try to get unbanned.
-
Reach out to the server owner or an administrator and explain what happened.
It’s possible that there was a misunderstanding or that you were accidentally banned. If they are willing to listen to your side of the story, they may be willing to lift the ban.
-
You can try joining the server again from a different account.
Sometimes bans are only meant to be temporary, and you may be able to get back in after a set period of time has passed.
We’ve all been there before, you say something stupid or make someone mad, and suddenly you’ve been banned from a Discord server. Discord server bans are incredibly common; sometimes, you don’t want to use a new account or new IP address. To continue using the same IP address, your options are quite limited and pretty much require getting a server admin on your side. Violating discord’s terms for a particular server can make this process even more complicated if a server moderator’s choice to revoke a permanent ban is outside the control.
Unfortunately, if you truly have broken a server’s rules, there aren’t a lot of ways to get back to that server, as Discord has some pretty effective walls built in to stop trolling and harassment. In the past, people would use a VPN server (a virtual private network) or a VPN app to use a different IP address.
In this guide, I will cover the options you have to reverse a ban from a Discord server.
How to Get Unbanned From a Private Discord Server
-
Join the server again
Many times, bans are meant to be temporary and you may be unbanned after a set time has passed. It’s possible that the server owner forgot about you, or they may have lifted the ban without you knowing.
-
Reach out to the Discord customer service team
This is more effective if you have been unjustly banned from a public server or multiple other servers. If you are struggling to access Discord as a whole due to a blanket ban for something involving your account, you will likely have to go through Discord directly. It is worth noting that it is very rare that Discord bans users unjustly. It is worth noting that recently Discord has begun working with streaming services to remove illegally streamed content such as Netflix or sporting events.
There isn’t a great way to reverse a ban from a private server aside from asking a server administrator or owner directly. This may be problematic if you aren’t friends with the server owner or cannot contact them some other way.
Discord does not allow communication between users who are not friends or do not share a discord server.
(This has been implemented by the Discord trust and safety team to stop unwanted friend requests, spam, harassment, etc.)
How to Get Unbanned From a Public Discord Server
Most large organized public servers have very strict rules outlining member conduct. Breaking these rules can result in a ban.
In most situations, an admin will review the case and decide based on the infraction’s severity.
These servers will have their own ways of dealing with ban appeals, so be sure to read the rules section thoroughly.
If you’ve been banned from a public discord server, your options are a bit more limited. You can try reaching out to the server administrator through another account or method of contact, but there’s no guarantee they’ll listen to your side of the story.
The best thing you can do is try joining the server again after some time has passed. Sometimes bans are only meant to be temporary, and you may be able to get back in after a set amount of time has passed.
You can also try joining the server from a different account. This may be difficult if you’ve been banned for harassment or trolling, as your name may be blacklisted.
If you’re trying to get unbanned from a public Discord server, your best bet is to wait it out or create a new account. Unfortunately, there isn’t much you can do if the server owner has decided to ban you permanently.
Why Would You Be Banned From a Discord Server?
There are several reasons why someone might be banned from a Discord server.
How to Get Around a Discord Ban
Server bans in Discord are based on your IP and account.
This means that creating a new Discord account will not allow you to rejoin a server once you have been banned.
As mentioned in the above picture, there are ways of circumventing this precaution.
This can include using a VPN, logging on from a different internet connection point from your phone, or using a public computer at a new location.
While doing any of these may be the only way to appeal your ban if you feel you have been wrongfully banned, you must be careful as you may be reported for harassment.
