Discord has allowed its users to share what they’re playing and doing through integrating other sites on their platform. Others can know what game you are currently playing or what web activities you are doing by looking at your Discord status. Discord statuses can be seen below your name in the member’s area.
You can also see it when you click the profile picture of a person. Their status will be shown under their name.
If you’re playing a game, Discord will likely show it as the status message.
Aside from games, though, you can set a Listening to Spotify status on Discord. This way, you can tell your Discord friends that you are enjoying music while chatting with them. They can also see what music you are playing. All you have to do is link your Discord to Spotify, and it will automatically be shown as a status message on your profile.
But what if your Spotify status is not showing on Discord? Fortunately, it’s easy to fix this problem. Below, I’ve listed solutions and a step-by-step guide that would hopefully resolve the issue with Spotify not showing.
Connecting Your Spotify Account to Discord
Before we get into troubleshooting, you need to make sure first that your Spotify and Discord accounts are linked. If you opened Discord and see a message inviting you to connect to Spotify, you most likely haven’t linked your accounts yet.
It’s advisable to do this on your PC rather than your mobile device because it’s easier. To connect Spotify to Discord, follow the steps below.
-
Step 1
Open the Discord app on your desktop.
-
Step 2
Click the cogwheel or gear icon beside your username to access User Settings.
-
Step 3
Go to the Connections tab, and select the Spotify icon.
-
Step 4
You will be redirected to your browser. If this is the first time you’ve linked your Spotify account to your Discord, you will be asked to log in first. You will know if the linking is successful if you see this message:
-
Step 5
Open Spotify on your browser or its app and play any song you like.
Once you go back to Discord and check your status, you will see that it’s now set to Listening to Spotify.
Other Discord users in your server will see this status message. If they click on your profile picture, they can also see what music you’re listening to.
If this message is not showing as a Discord status, there are a few fixes you can do.
Fix Spotify Not Showing as Status on Mobile
There are three things you can do that will hopefully fix Spotify not showing issues on your mobile device:
- Reconnect your Spotify account to Discord
- Enable Device Broadcast Status
- Reinstall both Discord and Spotify
Reconnect your Spotify account to Discord
Sometimes, your Discord Spotify status isn’t showing because of reasons like recently changing your password or slow internet connection. Other times, the issue might just be on the app’s end and you just need to refresh the link between Discord and Spotify.
A lot of Discord users find disconnecting and reconnecting their Spotify to Discord solves the problem of the status message not showing. To unlink and reconnect your Spotify to Discord you will need both apps and your mobile device’s browser. If you have those ready, do the following.
-
Step 1
Open the Discord app. Click your profile picture at the bottom to access User Settings.
-
Step 2
Select Connections.
-
Step 3
Tap the “X” beside the Spotify icon.
-
Step 4
A pop-up message will appear asking you if you want to remove Spotify from your Discord account. Tap Disconnect.
-
Step 5
It’s time to connect your Spotify account again. On the Connections page, tap Add.
-
Step 6
On the pop-up menu, tap the Spotify icon to connect your accounts.
-
Step 7
You will be redirected to a browser page where Spotify will ask you to log in. Sign in to your account and wait for the page to reload, until you see a confirmation stating that your Spotify and Discord accounts are connected.
Go to Spotify and play any music you like. Then, open Discord again and go to any server. When you click the sidebar where members are shown, you can see that Listening to Spotify is shown as your current status.
Enable Device Broadcast Status
Discord requires you to enable Device Broadcast Status on your Spotify account. If your status message isn’t showing on Discord, you might as well check your Spotify settings to see if this feature is enabled. To do this, do the following steps:
-
Step 1
Open the Spotify app.
-
Step 2
On the homepage, find the cogwheel icon and tap it. This will take you to Settings.
-
Step 3
Scroll down until you find Device Broadcast Status and toggle it on.
Go back to the Discord app and check if the status message is displaying correctly now.
Reinstall both Discord and Spotify
If you’ve done both of the methods above and still it won’t display Spotify status, you may want to try uninstalling both apps and reinstalling them again. Just uninstall the apps in your device’s settings, and then head to the App Store or Google Play to reinstall them again. A possible reason why Discord won’t display Spotify status is that your app might be out of date and thus it needs to be reinstalled. Once you’ve done reinstalling the apps, connect the Spotify app to your Discord account again and see if the problem is fixed.
